1. Travel - I've been to lots of places around Seoul and then to Jeju Island which is the ultimate place to visit in Korea. There's obviously way more I want to see, but this was the big one. Plus, it was my first real vacation here after 6 months and it felt great. Coming down from that vacation was tough.
2. Save money - While I've spent a lot of money here travelling and seeing things, I've still saved a good chunk of money (and I still have more to save and transfer home)!
3. Meet new people from all over the world - This happens on a continuous basis as old teachers leave and new ones arrive. Today, a couple from Quebec (I think) arrived to teach at our school, replacing the two teachers who left. I'm excited to meet them and hope they want to hang out with our group a lot!
4. Find a husband - I will never forget countless conversations with friends back home before I left just laughing and imagining if I met somebody here. But I always ended it with - "I mean it's not going to happen. But wouldn't that be so crazy? Could you imagine?" And now look at me. Kenneth is in the process of filling out his immigration forms to move to Canada with me.
So I guess after accomplish all things I wanted to accomplish, I just felt so done! But then after a few days I normalized again. The best part of coming down from a lovely vacation is planning the next one. There is a major holiday here at the beginning of October called Chuseok which is like Korean Thanksgiving. We have a full week off for that. Caitlin and I were originally planning on going to Bali because I had vacation envy of everyone whose been there recently. But looking at the cost we thought we'd look at other options. Beijing came up and the cost was half of that of Bali. Then I thought about it and when I go back to Canada it is unlikely that I'll ever go to China. It's more likely that I'd go to Bali. Plus. I just did a beachy vacation so it's time for a cultural/historical vacation We just booked our Beijing vacation yesterday! We are staying in a nice 4 hotel near some historical landmarks. We plan on some day trips to the Great Wall and Tienanmen Square for sure. The next 6 weeks will be filled with getting a Chinese visitor visa and planning other sights to see. I'm so excited!
Here's some pics from the week.
Going away dinner for Jaclyn and Danielle.
Me: We haven't taken a picture together in a while!
Common Ground is a trendy shopping area in Seoul made out of
shipping containers.
Hipster toilet stall? Also who spreads their legs
that wide when peeing? Am I doing it wrong?
This is 5 fries which was beans, eggplant, jalapenos, pickles, and potatoes all fried together. I liked the concept instead of just ordering fries or deep friend pickles (which is may fav). Another idea I'd love to see adopted back home.
Just chillin' with a space man
For those of you wondering, yes I've seen the news lately but I don't want to be inundated with it or read too much of it.This was a happy post because I still have to live my life and have fun here while I can.
People here aren't too concerned with things happening in North Korea, even with stupid threats and nonsense from Trump. North Korea always tests a missile to show their might. Every president until now just ignores it and doesn't retaliate. The long and the short of it is: If Kim Jong-un attacks anyone he will be killed immediately. So, it's a suicide mission. He'll really have to want to die and make a statement, regardless of whether he lives or dies, and I doubt someone like him will want that. The only thing is who knows how trigger happy Trump is.
I do have a "go bag" and all other necessities (cash, passport) just in case.
Anyways, enough of that.
Lots of love!
Alli
